Cheating on Classroom Assignments and Assessments

• Rule 8A – Cell Phone Policy on Assessments:

  • Description: Violating cell phone policy on assessments.

  • Level II (First Incident): First incident of failure to follow school policy.

    • Consequences: Classroom teacher-led interventions or administrative detention; resubmission/retake.

  • Level III (Repeated Incidents): Repeated incidents of failure to follow school policy.

    • Consequences: Administrative detention, ISS (1–3 days), or OSS (1–3 days); resubmission/retake.
       

• Rule 11F – Cheating on Classroom Assignments & Assessments:

  • Level II (First Incident): First incident of cheating and/or intentional receiving or providing of unauthorized assistance on classroom projects, assessments, and assignments (may include, but is not limited to, failure to cite sources).

    • Consequences: Classroom teacher-led interventions or administrative detention; resubmission/retake.

  • Level III (Repeated Incidents): Repeated incidents of cheating and/or intentional receiving or providing of unauthorized assistance on classroom projects, assessments, and assignments (may include, but is not limited to, failure to cite sources).

    • Consequences: Administrative detention, ISS (1–3 days), or OSS (1–3 days); resubmission/retake.

Cheating/Phones on District, State, or National Assessments

• Rule 8A:

  • Description: Cheating on district, state, or national assessments.

  • Severity Level: Student caught with a phone (no pictures, no cheating).

  • Consequences: 2 days of ISS.

• Rule 11F:

  • Description: Cheating on district, state, or national assessments.

  • Severity Level: Student caught using their phone to cheat.

  • Consequences: 2 days of ISS.

• Rule 2P:

  • Description: Cheating on district, state, or national assessments.

  • Severity Level: Student caught with phone and sharing test (compromised test security).

  • Consequences: 2 days OSS followed by 2 days of ISS.

  • Note: If egregious, the consequence could be deemed a Level 4 or 5.

Additional Guidelines

• 1st Offense on District Assessment: Administer a locally created assessment during the retake window along with the appropriate consequence.

• Gwinnett Writes: Administer a retake of Gwinnett Writes with guidance from the Department of Accountability & Assessment.

• 2nd Offense: Resulting consequence and a zero for the test.
