2024-2025 Dual Enrollment Information
2024-2025 Dual Enrollment Participation Information
Please see the information below for information about how we will proceed with the dual enrollment (DE) process for students interested in participating in DE for the 2024-2025 school year.
Students wishing to participate in dual enrollment for the 24-25 school year must complete the following step:
1) Complete the following google form (must be logged into your GCPS account): Dual Enrollment Interest Form
The above must be completed by JANUARY 31st. No exceptions! This does NOT commit you to doing dual enrollment, just expresses that you want to continue with the process. If you are on the fence, please go ahead and fill out the form above. You can always back out of the process if you decide it is not right for you.
What Happens after this?
1) Group Information Meetings with Students: Beginning in February, we will pull students in groups to go over the next steps in detail. We will discuss application procedures, types of classes, options they can take advantage of, how scheduling works, testing, and more.
2) Individual Meetings with Students: Also in February, we will begin meeting with students individually who wish to continue along in the process. In this meeting, students will discuss and (tentatively) determine the classes they wish to take within dual enrollment.
3) More Meetings!: In February and March, optional groups will be held to offer application assistance, GA Futures application assistance, and scheduling assistance.
4) College Orientation: Once accepted by the college, colleges will send students orientation information to the student's college email account. Please follow the steps to attend orientation, as this is a CRUCIAL part of the process. You will typically register for classes at that time.
5) Schedules: Turn in college schedule to Mr. Palmeri This is also super important, as your Fall 2024 CHHS schedule will NOT be changed until we have your college schedule.
I'M IN! ....Now what?
Once you have been accepted to the college, most of what you do next will be done through the college. While details can vary from college to college, generally, the process looks like this:
- READ your acceptance email to make sure you don't miss any important information
- Be on the look out for communication from the college regarding your acceptance that will detail what your next steps are
- You should be asked to attend an orientation of some kind which could be in person or in virtual format
- During orientation is when you will either learn how to register for classes or be guided in registering for your classes. It is IMPERATIVE that you know what we have discussed for classes so that you can sign up for the correct classes the first time. Please visit "Class Scheduling Information" in the section below this one for helpful information on signing up for classes.
- IMPORTANT: Once you receive your dual enrollment schedule, please take a screenshot of your schedule and send it to Mr. Palmeri. This serves as confirmation that you are enrolled in the correct classes. PLEASE make sure you include your name!!!! Your CHHS schedule will NOT be altered until we receive this schedule.
Class Scheduling Tips
Because we often run into scheduling concerns and issues, I wanted to provide some information regarding class scheduling. Please review the information below.
Part-Time Students
For any students who are NOT enrolled in dual enrollment full time, you must have a total of 6 classes between CHHS and the college in which you are enrolled. For example:
1 DE class + 5 CHHS classes
2 DE classes + 4 CHHS classes
3 DE classes + 3 CHHS classes
4 DE classes + 0 CHHS classes
Full-Time Students
Full-time students typically take 4 classes a semester, which is typically 12-14 college credit hours per semester. Students are allowed to take up to 15 hours a semester. Anything over this would be at the student's expense. I personally recommend limiting classes to 4 per semester, especially if this is a student's first time taking college classes.
Flexibility With Your Schedule
The Perfect Schedule: Dual enrollment is not a guarantee of a perfect schedule. Colleges do not reserve spots for dual enrollment students, so students register for classes in the same way that regular college students do. Sometimes, desired classes are full or classes aren't offered at the time you prefer. Additionally, CHHS courses are not all offered every period of every day, and sometimes classes are full. We do our best to work with you to create a schedule that will best fit your needs, but we cannot guarantee classes will be offered when you need them.
Intentional Planning: When making your DE schedule, please consider what classes you have to take at CHHS. If you create a schedule that keeps you at the college from 930-1230, but you need 4 classes at CHHS as well, there is no physical way to accommodate this. I recommend grouping classes either during the second half of the day to best work with your CHHS schedule. I've had some students have to go to CHHS, then the college, then back to CHHS, and the overall feedback is that they do not like having to do this. Be conscious of what classes you are choosing and when.
Travel Time: I recommend students reserve at least 45 minutes for travel time. While GGC and GTC are close by, it takes time to walk to your car, get to the college, find parking, and get to your college class. Do not plan to finish with class at CHHS at 11:05am and make it on time for an 11:30 class at the college. I promise you will be late, and we do not want students feeling rushed on the road to get to class on time.
