Meet Your Teacher Day
Tasks to Complete
-
Students: Pull up your student schedule on StudentVUE. There are directions posted outside the Counseling Office if you need help. Use the map to find the room numbers listed on your schedule so that you can meet all your teachers. Try to walk your schedule in class order to get an idea of how long it takes to get from class to class. You can always try alternate routes once school begins if you find that a specific hallway is too crowded.
-
Parents: Check out the tables in the Commons for information about various elements of our school (clinic, PTSA, etc.). Please make sure to stop by the table to sign up for ParentVUE and ParentSquare access. This will allow you to access information about your student online at any time. If you have used GCPS parent apps in the past (even at a different school), you do not need to register again - your account is still active. If you already have an account but are having trouble accessing it, stop by the table for additional help.
-
Go to the Gym Lobby for bus information. Use the posted lists to find your bus number, pick-up times and bus stop location. You may also find your bus number in ParentVUE by choosing the student, choosing Student Info., and Student Bus Assignment and/or Additional Student Information (scroll down).
In a note in your phone or on a piece of paper, note the following:-
Bus #
-
AM Pickup Time
-
Bus Stop Location
-
-
Take a moment to enter the upstairs gym and check out some of our clubs and sports who are looking for new members.
Note about Schedule Changes
Corrections to a schedule may be considered ONLY if requests meet one of the following conditions:
-
The student does not have the prerequisite to be in a class;
-
The student has already taken and passed the class they are scheduled for;
-
The student is in a senior homeroom and needs a course required for graduation.
If your request fits one of the above conditions, please fill out a reconsideration of placement form that you can pick up at the ParentSquare/ParentVUE table.
Helpful Information You NEED to Know
1. ATTENDANCE: According to the state of Georgia, absences and tardies are only excused for the following reasons:
-
Personal illness
-
Death/serious illness of immediate family
-
Serving as a page for GA General Assembly
-
Hazardous weather
-
Religious holidays
-
Voting or registering to vote
-
Orders from government agency
-
Caregiver military deployment/leave
-
Excused Absences: If you are absent, you have two options for getting the absence excused. Parents can upload absence notes directly in ParentVUE or the student can bring a note to the attendance office. Any absence notes should include the student's full name, student number, date(s) absent, reason for absence, parent signature, and a phone number where the parent can be reached.
-
Checking Out: If you need to check out, you need to bring a note from your parent to the attendance office (inside the front office) prior to first period. The attendance clerk will have to verify the check-out with your parents. Please include phone numbers at which a parent can be reached; otherwise, a parent will need to come into the visitor vestibule (inside the main entrance doors) to check you out.
-
Class Tardies: If you are tardy to class, report directly to class and your teacher will mark you tardy. There are weekly consequences for tardies, so please be on time each period!
-
School Tardies: If you are tardy to school, go to the closest student services office and get a pass.
-
Pre-arranged Absences: If you need to pre-arrange an absence, go to the attendance office to get a form 3 days ahead of time. Out of town trips are not excused without prior notice and proper form completed.
2. BUS INFORMATION Bus dismissal is at 2:10 p.m. You need a note from parents in order to ride with a friend on a different bus. You must bring your parent note to the attendance office before first period. The note must have a parent contact and the school will need to confirm with the parent before a bus pass is given.
3. CLINIC If you feel sick during the day, GO TO THE CLINIC, do not just stay in the bathroom. All medications brought to school MUST be kept in the clinic with a parent note.
4. DRESS CODE During their time at Collins Hill, we want our students to learn the skills needed to prepare them for the workforce and the real world. As a part of that goal, we expect students to come to school dressed professionally, as if they were reporting to a job. Our specific dress code policy can be found in our Student Handbook (on the school website) if you want to review the specific guidelines. There are also dress code guidelines posted in the hallways.
5. ELECTRONIC DEVICES Students do NOT need to bring personal electronic devices to school this year because they will use their school-issued Chromebook. We recommend caution and vigilance if they do bring personal electronic items to school. These items are sometimes lost or stolen, and the school is not responsible for loss or theft of personal property.
6. GYM LOCKERS If you are taking a PE or Dance class, your belongings should be stored in a locked gym locker. You can bring a lock of your own to use or purchase one for a small fee from our PE department. Collins Hill High School is not responsible for missing, lost, or stolen items.
7. LUNCH
A few friendly reminders:
-
Have only one earbud in when going through the lunch line.
-
Seating is available in the commons or the courtyard only.
-
Always clean your table area and throw trash away in the trash cans.
-
Stay in your seat until the bell rings.
-
Use restrooms in the gym lobby.
8. STUDENT ID You will be provided with a picture ID card during the first few months of school. Keep this card with you at all times. You will need it to use in the media center and cafeteria. It is important to keep your ID with you in case you need to provide identification to a teacher or administrator.
